"If it weren't for the people, I would enjoy ministry". Having said this jokingly to a friend in order to make a point, I realized the most difficult part of any endeavor is often the people element. Why, you ask? Because people carry baggage and unchecked baggage is often destructive and full of all kinds of menacing things from our past. When you have an organization, company, or family unit where the people at the top are emotionally immature, chaos is bound to ensue.
Each of us have an "emotional heritage", made up of our past experiences, associations with key people, personal choices, wounds, and family of origin dynamics. This heritage is fleshing itself out through our everyday encounters with friends, family, and most importantly-ourselves. The crazymaking really flourishes when we don't realize this is all going on just underneath the surface of our lives! Thank God we are created in His image, which means we have the ability to change our heritage through the power of His Spirit working through us by creating awareness, direction, and growth through healing.
